I’m the birth and postpartum doula, placenta specialist, childbirth educator, and sleep consultant behind Intuition Doula Services and I’m so glad you’re here! Allow me to tell you a little bit about myself!
Like most people, I had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up. I mean, if I really had a choice, I’d probably choose to not grow up at all, am I right?? But eventually you get to a point where you have to figure it out - or at least choose, one by one, things that feel right in the moment, hoping they ultimately amount to something you enjoy and can see yourself doing long-term. Studying social work in college was one of the first choices that felt right to me. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it, but I knew I wanted to help people. Simple enough. Yet as graduation loomed and I was faced with the decision to enter the workforce earning meager pay, or pursue a Master’s degree, I found neither option to feel right. So I took a full-time nannying job, figuring it would be a “for now” situation that would give me some degree of job satisfaction while paying off some student debt and buying time to consider what my next right thing would be. I think we’ve all had a “for now” job at some point, right? Well, “for now” ended up being four years, in which time I fell in love with working with children and families - just not in the way that I expected. I dove fully into my role as a nanny, relishing every moment with the kids I worked with (who years later would be in my wedding), and feeling extremely grateful to be a part of this family’s village of support. This was truly the first time I had witnessed how crucial support was to the health and wellness of a family.
It was also around this time that I was exposed to the birth world. I believe I stumbled across an Instagram account that featured raw, powerful images of people birthing and was immediately captivated. I remember thinking, “Wait a second, how is everyone not talking about this?!” I was amazed at what the human body was capable of and the lengths to which parents would go to create their forever families. I was instantly hooked. I began devouring all the birthy material I could get my hands on. I watched The Business of Being Born, read birth stories and books about midwifery, and began listening to the Birth Hour Podcast, which features a wide array of birth stories - cesarean births, vaginal unmedicated births, loss, orgasmic births, several-day inductions, unassisted births, you name it. I was amazed. Intrigued. Galvanized.
It was at this point that I realized what my next right thing was. I had spent years serving families in a nannying capacity, but I knew that my heart longed to support families through the most meaningful, magical, challenging, transformative time of their lives - pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. The creation and sustaining of families. So finally, after years of curiosity, fascination, and amazement, I decided to pursue my next right thing. I trained with BEST Doulas in May of 2020 and have spent the last several years building my business, Intuition Doula Services, with the goal of supporting birthing people and their families on the sacred journey of creating their unique family. I believe wholeheartedly that clients know what is best for them and their baby and that they should be at the center of their care. I simply exist to honor their intuition, respect their choices, and support them in whatever way I can as they journey through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.
Since completing my birth and postpartum doula training, I have also completed certifications in childbirth education, placenta encapsulation, and sleep consulting. My ultimate goal is to partner with families through the entirety of their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences, providing as many services I can to ensure the transition into parenthood is as smooth and supported as possible.
